Mangrove Jack/Roots/Branches Casting 16th February

After being heavily poisoned by the posts from both Takin and Tok Dolah,I had been setting my sight on going to Kuala Terong for its hard fighting Mangrove Jacks.

Finally,I received a call from Lannun and I told him that I'm game for that trip!So off we went on the 16th which fell on a Saturday.

The journey to Kuala Terong was somewhat similar to the route taken to go to Etika Fishing Resort. It took us around 2 hours or so before we reached the coffee shop for a good nasi lemak breakfast.

Latok with my Monster Pup glasses.Very Lansi looking eh?

Once Nasir met up with us at the coffee shop,we soon headed to the jetty where we will launch our rented boats to the designated spots. When we reached the jetty,we were pretty amazed by the number of people heading out. When explained,I came to know that these anglers were heading out to sea and not the estuary.Phew! The lesser the fishing pressure on the MJs!

We rigged up and transported the necessary goods into the boats.

Lannun with his usual commanding self.Giving out instructions like a true leader.

Latok Lansi posing.

Jeymatt the Boatman minus the "T"

Watson knows how to steer the boat so he was made the boatman.I was in the same boat as him and Latok.

On the other boat,Nasir the boatman with Lannun and Jeymatt.Note the lure on Lannun's mouth.

The customary LKG pose before fishing starts.

Watson a.k.a. DeFisho

Latok Lansi a.k.a. Culky

Beautiful sceneries along our journey to the designated spots.

Schools of Tarpons were spotted as we passed through these areas but we didn't stop to fish for it as we were targeting the MJs.

Potential MJ spots. The magrove roots act as shelters and hide out for MJs to perform their ambush towards any unsuspecting bait fish that swims within its strike zone.

TEAM PEESANG
Lannun cast netting.

The Jenjulungs.Nasir inserted a hook into the body of the Jenjulungs in a weedless presentation to be presented to the MJs as baits.

As you can see,he landed an MJ with it.If the MJ do ran back into the snag,it wouldn't be heart aching as the only cost of making the "lure" was the hook.

The technique used by Nasir was slow retrieve letting the "lure" brush against the bottom.

Jeymatt started out by landing a Barracuda on Rattling Silver Blue(out of production).

Barracudas of these size are plentiful in Kuala Terong.

Soon,he himself caught a MJ.

Lannun too landed a Barracuda.

He looked even happier when he landed a Saiseng compared to a Barracuda.

Cockerel on X-Rap.Must be a first for any rod and line angler.

Close up on the cockerel.

TEAM BANANA
I registered the first fish of the day from the group of anglers from my boat. Not the fish that I wanted(it was a Barracuda) but still it was a fish.At least I was no longer worried that I will go home empty handed.

After the Barracuda,my nightmare began in broad daylight.

I kept snagging onto roots and branches throughout the whole day which frustrated me a lot.To make things worst,Latok was nagging and complaining about my unprofessional acts.

Trying to reach for one of my very many snagged lures.

The use of treble hooks with definitely make your day a lot worse even if you have good casting skills.

After I landed my fish,I started bragging to Latok about me no longer going home empty handed.Minutes after that,he shut me up by hauling in a MJ.Lucky fella. He caught the MJ on Lucky Craft B-Freeze.

Soon,it was Watson's turn to hit the MJ.He used his trusty Halco Sorcerer which rewarded him with the prized catch.

Armed with the Halco Sorcerer, again he landed a MJ somewhere near the fallen tree stump.I guess God did rewarded him for the hard work he put in to get us around the fishing spot.

Every once in awhile,we will bump into each other's boats and that was when we will ask about the fishing results.

Latok was so horny the other day that he tried to hump his rod.In the end,he climaxed and he broke the "virginity" of his Lemax rod.

Watson with the last catch of the day which was a Barracuda.I myself missed Barracuda moments before he landed the fish.

Being a boatman,it was never easy.Watson took some rest while maneuvering the boat.COOL!

We brought our catch to a nearby restaurant once we finished fishing.Fresh fish never tasted this good along with plenty of crabs that we bought from a shop at the jetty.

The aftermath of a superb dinner.

As usual,I didn't sleep the previous night so it didn't take me long before I dozed off during the journey back to Penang.

So what can I say about the trip?It was a really fun and cheap trip which Latok made me realized how bad my casts were all these while.Of course,I am traumatized to go back for the MJs with the thought of Latok cursing me left, right and center!Fear not!I will work on my casts and will definitely be back for the the elusive MJ which I failed to hook up on.
